The Aruba Athletic Federation proudly continues its World Athletics Level 1 Practical Coaching Course and Day 6 brought another night of exceptional learning and hands-on development at the iconic GPT Stadium.
This session focused entirely on one of the most technical and elegant throwing events in athletics: the javelin throw.
Under the expert leadership of Mr. Roy Thomas from Jamaica and Assistant Trainer Mr. Peter Simon from Aruba, participants were guided through every layer of the javelin event, from foundational mechanics to advanced technical refinement.
The evening began with instruction on the grip, ensuring that each participant understood how hand position directly influences control, release angle and overall accuracy. From there, the session transitioned into the essential five-stride rhythm, a coordinated sequence that builds speed, maintains posture and channels momentum into the delivery phase. Participants practiced maintaining balance, rhythm and smooth acceleration through every stride.
A major emphasis of the night was placed on two critical technical elements of the javelin approach:
-
Acute angles, which help establish correct alignment and efficient force transfer
-
Arc position, a fundamental body orientation that maximizes stretch reflex and increases throwing power
These concepts allowed participants to understand how body mechanics, alignment, and timing all connect to produce an effective throw.
The session culminated in an in-depth exploration of the delivery phase, covering blocking mechanics, torso rotation, hip-and-shoulder separation, and safe release technique. Participants were encouraged to connect their theoretical knowledge from the previous weeks with real-world application, demonstrating significant improvement as the night progressed.
The atmosphere at the GPT Stadium was filled with focus, discipline, and enthusiasm. Every participant showed remarkable growth, both in understanding and execution. Their commitment to learning reinforces the Federation’s mission to strengthen the quality of coaching across all events in Aruba.
Another productive and technically rich evening is in the books, bringing our coaches one step closer to achieving their World Athletics Level 1 Certification.
The Aruba Athletic Federation is proud of the dedication, teamwork, and passion displayed throughout this journey. 🇦🇼💙✨
