Safeguarding Takes Center Stage at CARIFTA Games 2025

April 20, 2025

April | Trinidad and Tobago

A major highlight of this year’s CARIFTA Games was the implementation of a comprehensive safeguarding initiative. For the first time in the event’s history, each national delegation was required to include a Safeguarding Officer to ensure the safety, protection and overall well-being of all athletes and team members throughout the competition.

Representing Aruba, Mr. Fernando de Graf served as the official Safeguarding Officer and actively participated in a dedicated safeguarding workshop held on April 18th in Trinidad and Tobago. The session brought together safeguarding professionals from across the Caribbean to share best practices, address common challenges and reinforce the Games’ commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for youth athletes.

This milestone reflects a growing regional effort to prioritize athlete welfare and uphold the highest standards of care in youth sports.
